Labor Essay

Labor EssayIt is known that every action is caused by counteraction. In social relations “power” forms of the influence, undertaken by one side; inevitably cause the proper reaction from other side. In a social sphere such reaction on “pressure” traditionally are labor movements and strikes. In this essay we will talk about labor movement and key factors that led to it.
If we look to the history we can see such situation: “The labor movement has helped achieve a higher standard of living for U.S. workers. However, in the 1980s and early 1990s the number of work hours had begun to increase, while compensation lagged behind a rising cost of living. In recent decades the percentage of workers belonging to labor unions has declined, and since the late 1970s there has been a marked decrease in membership in manufacturing unions. In 1945 about 36 percent of all nonfarm employees belonged to labor unions; about 16 percent were members in the early 1990s.” Creation of labor unions initiated the stage of the organized fight of workers broad masses, incorporated for the joint appearances in protection their own economic interest.
From the information above it is possible to understand that people want to change situation in such a way and among key factors we can see that professional requirements are related to the increase of salary, maintenance of workplaces, improvement of labor conditions, hygiene and accident preventions, social protection for workers and different social privileges. Labor-union requirements are related to confession worker’s right on free meeting, election of own representatives and conduct of collective negotiations on questions of salary and labor conditions. Of course these requirements were good for workers, but not for employers. Employers in different ways make attempts to resist such unionization, because it can lead to undesirable for employers’ results.
At the end of the work I want to say that labor movements had changed the history and due to them now situation is much better than it was ten years ago. The overall decline in union membership that has occurred in recent years can be explained by another labor situation and also by changing conditions of life. It is impossible to say that labor unions disappeared, because they became unimportant, but it possible to say that with new problems labor union activate their power and will be fight against these problems.
