The development of hospitality industry is crucial for the economy growth of Jamaica because hospitality industry is the major industry of the country. In such a context, the recent progress of hospitality industry in Jamaica is quite logical since the local government encourages the development of hospitality industry and foreign direct investments. At the same time, the local hospitality industry is mainly oriented on tourists from the USA, which are the target customer group, although tourists from other countries are also visiting Jamaica regularly. No wonder, Jamaican hospitality industry attempts to adapt to the needs and preferences of American customers that makes it similar to American hospitality industry. On the other hand, it is local specificities of the local culture and lifestyle that make Jamaica so attractive for tourists and distinguish its hospitality industry from hospitality industry of the USA.
On analyzing the current situation in the hospitality industry of Jamaica, it should be said that the country enjoys a steady growth of the hospitality industry, mainly due to foreign investments. The country is attractive for investors and the hospitality industry is the main industry of the country. At the same time, the development of the hospitality industry is accompanied by a considerable influence of the US as the main investors and the country which citizens comprise a large part of tourists visiting Jamaica. This is why companies operating in the hospitality industry of Jamaica attempt to introduce quality standards similar to those in the USA. However, at the moment, they cannot always succeed in this regard because the qualification of local employees does not always meet the high standards established in the USA. As a result, local companies cannot always provide the high quality services to its customers.
Nevertheless, companies operating in the premium segment of the market have already proved their ability to provide services of the high quality. These companies often employ foreign specialists which manage their facilities in Jamaica and introduce new, more efficient management style. As a result, Jamaican hospitality industry tends to close the gap in the quality standards compared to the US hospitality industry.
At the same time, the hospitality industry of Jamaica can benefit from peculiarities and uniqueness of the local culture which is the major attraction along with the local nature which attracts a large number of tourists annually. In fact, Jamaica offers customers a perfect alternative to the traditional American culture and, when people grew tired of the American culture and want to get acquainted with a new, exotic culture, they can attend Jamaica, where they find the mix of old traditions and unique lifestyle and culture of the local population.
Thus, taking into account all above mentioned, it is possible to conclude that the development of hospitality industry in Jamaica is characterized by a considerable impact of the US hospitality industry, which is the model for Jamaican companies in regard to quality and services standards. In addition, many American companies develop their business in Jamaica. Nevertheless, Jamaica preserves the uniqueness of its culture and has unique nature that attracts many tourists from abroad.
