Movie Review
Today, technologies have reached an unparalleled level of development. The mankind generates new ideas and introduces technological innovations, which aim at the improvement of the life of people. However, people do not always think of the risk of losing control over technologies. In this respect, the movie “I, Robot” is a kind of warning since it raises the theme of technologies out of control.
The action of the film takes place in the future, when robots became close assistants of humans. They accompany humans everywhere, take care of them and fulfill all their orders as long as orders do not threaten to the life of people or robots. In such a way, the director depicts a future of the mankind where machines have become totally integrated in human life.

The plot of the story is quite simple. The opening of the film reveals the strange suicide of Dr. A. Lanning, the inventor of the Three Laws of Robotics which define the life and actions of robots. Detective Spooner investigates the case and reveals that Sonny, a Robot, has some relation to the death of Lanning. Eventually, Spooner reveals the plot schemed by Viki, the mainframe computer and destroys it to stop the rise of robots against humans.
The protagonist of the movie, Spooner, has almost paranoiac prejudice against robots. He personifies an archetype of humans who live in the epoch when technologies were worth nothing and humans relied on their own forces. In contrast, the antagonist of the story, Viki, personifies the evil power which is hidden in new technologies that can destroy the mankind.
The clash of Spooner and Viki marks the climax of the movie since it marks the final struggle between humans and machines when the former gets their last chance to take control over machines. Eventually, the resolution is positive for humans since Viki is destroyed and humans still rules the world. In such a way, the film reveals its main theme, the theme of technologies out of control and risks accompanying this problem.
Thus, the film “I, Robot” is a kind of warning to the mankind. People should become aware of potential risks and threats accompanying the development of new technologies that are currently implemented everywhere making the apocalyptic future, predicted by the film, closer to the real life.
