Evolutionary Psychology

Human behavior can be explained from different positions. In this regard, evolution psychology views human behavior, human action and reactions as adaptations to the environment and changes that occur in the life of people and society at large. In such a context, some behavioral models and reactions of people depicted in the film “Network” are quite noteworthy since they can be interpreted from the evolutionary point of view.
Firstly, the reaction of Fat Dunaway on the ripping of the bank and shooting the film is determined by her perception of the event and the attitude of the Ecumenical Liberation Army to this event. In fact, ripping off the bank is already a challenge to the society, while shooting a film is an attempt of the ELA to stress its neglect of conventional laws and norms. Hence, Fat Dunaway understands that it is the challenge to all those norms she get used to and which she takes for granted. Therefore, she views this event that does not meet conventional norms as a sensation, which ruins her traditions views and beliefs or at least challenges them.
As for Max’s response to his wife, it can be viewed as a sheer evidence of the importance of natural selection and dominance of biological factors over human rationalism. In fact, Max is leaving his wife and he is apparently driven by the sexual appeal to his lover since he cannot give any reasonable explanation to his actions. Moreover, he is convinced that he will return to his wife that means that his passion to another woman is purely physical, sexual attraction which forces him to leave his wife for a while.
In such a way, the aforementioned samples reveal the possible application of basic concepts of evolutionary psychology.
