Navy Core Values – Honor, Courage, Commitment – are very important and really necessary for an officer working in the U.S. Navy. But to my mind they are obligatory not only for Navy service, but also for almost all spheres of life. They are of a great value for everyone who is eager to become a Navy officer
“Honor” means inner moral virtues of a person. It means honesty, nobility of soul and clear conscience. Honor implies standards and norms of moral and ethical behaving. This value requires a person to act always morally right, to treat other people respectfully and sincerely. Honor is an ability of people to be always responsible for their actions, to keep others accountable for theirs. Applying this value to Navy service, it should be pointed out that a sailor never demeans the reputation of the U.S. Navy. ”Courage” is the highest soul bravery. It implies firmness, nobility, generosity and sometimes self-sacrifice. Courage is honor in action. It means mental discipline and following high moral standards of conduct. It is essential for everyone to realize the importance and necessity of courage in our life, in our daily assignments and interactions, especially in our modern life. Courage always means not to be afraid and to be able to step forward, doing what is right and moral. Besides it can imply an ability to keep our self-control under the circumstances.
“Commitment” is a constant readiness to give a lot of our time, attention and knowledge to certain occupation because we consider it to be right and important. Commitment means to be responsible for what we do, total dedication to it. It is a selfless determination and dedication to the excellence in all that we do, it is doing our best to make what we do successful. We should always persist in, should not give up, as there is no second best. Commitment is considered to be a total dedication to the United States and their Navy. The U.S. Navy depends on committed sailors. Because commitment never dies.
I strongly believe in these three core values, and they rank high in my system of values. I am doing my best to demonstrate them in everything I do. I’m sure they assist me in my leadership potential, moral standards of my behaving and lifestyle.
