William Shakespeare was born in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon (Warwickshire County) in 1564, according to legend, April 23. Last name "Shakespeare" can be translated to English as "a terrific spear." His father, John Shakespeare, was a wealthy tradesman (glover) and moneylenders, often elected to various public office once he was elected mayor. He did not attend church services, for which he paid large fines (perhaps he was secretly a Roman Catholic). His mother, nee Arden, belonged to one of the oldest English surnames. It is believed that Shakespeare was in Stratford "grammar school" (English «grammar school»), where he received a serious education: Stratford teacher of Latin language and literature he wrote poetry in Latin. Some scholars argue that Shakespeare attended King Edward VI school in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he studied the works of poets such as Ovid and Plautus, but the school journals have not survived, and now we can not say anything for sure.
In 1582 he married Anne Hathaway, daughter of a local landowner, the former at 8 years his senior, in 1583 they had a daughter Susanna, in 1585 - twins: a son Hemnet, who died in childhood (1596), and a daughter, Judith. Around 1587 Shakespeare left Stratford and moved to London.
In 1592 Shakespeare became a member of the London troupe of actors Burbage and from 1599 - also one of the shareholders of the troupe. For many years, Shakespeare was engaged in usury, and in 1605 became the tithe-farmers.
In 1612, Shakespeare left for unknown reasons in his resignation and returned to his native Stratford, where his wife and daughter. Shakespeare's testament, dated 15 March 1616-the year was signed by illegible handwriting, on the basis of what some researchers believe he was then seriously ill. April 23, 1616 Shakespeare died.
Shakespeare's literary heritage is divided into two unequal parts: verse (poems and sonnets) and drama. Belinsky wrote that "it would have been bold and strange to give Shakespeare a decisive advantage to all the poets of mankind, as a true poet, but as a playwright, and now he remains without a rival, whose name can be used to put beside his name"
