They help us organize our data and results so that others can repeat experiments and receive the same outcome. Due to their importance to the scientific community, it is important that all young aspiring scientists learn to write these kinds of papers. There are 6 mains sections to a lab report.
The purpose of the lab report is to convey information about what you have accomplished during your experiment, just as it would if you were in a laboratory after graduation. The lab report is your opportunity to show the lab instructor what you have learned. Because of this, there are some things to keep in mind that will help you out when your report is graded.
Lab reports are assignments that take a bit more time to prepare and will usually take more than a few days to complete. You will be given a time frame to complete each lab report depending on the lab and the day it is done. All labs are graded on a 100-point system. Your lab report is to be typed, and neatly assembled into a stapled packet complete with all pertinent information included. Please put your name(s) and class in the report. Inevitably I get one report without a name. Use a 12 font and a “simple” not a fancy font type! Use spell check!
When learning how to write a lab report essay, there are many formatting issues that you need to keep in mind. If you are writing lab reports for a chemistry course, for example, you will need to follow the guidelines as established by the teacher or professor. Although the requirements for lab report writing may differ somewhat from class to class, most will contain all of the following elements:

• Equipment and Materials;
• Procedure;
• Results and Discussions;
• Conclusions;
• References.
In the conclusion portion of your lab report, you will explain why your results are significant. In addition, you will write a brief summary of your thoughts regarding the experiment and your results. Finally, you must cite all of the reference materials you used in the development of your lab report. Any materials you used to help you with the experiment or to help you draw your conclusions should be listed.
