If the draft exists, you don’t need a new paper. Editing works on what you have already written – which costs less than writing from scratch and keeps the argument yours.
Editing or proofreading?
They are different services, and picking the wrong one wastes money.
Proofreading – the final pass
Spelling, punctuation, typos, consistency of names, numbers and formatting. The text is otherwise left alone. Choose it when you are confident in the content and the writing, and simply want a clean copy. It is the cheaper of the two.
Editing – the working pass
Everything proofreading covers, plus structure, paragraph logic, argument flow, register, word choice and repetition. An editor will move a paragraph that belongs elsewhere, cut a sentence that repeats the one before it, and flag a claim that has no evidence behind it. Choose it when the thinking is sound and the writing gets in its way.
Who gets the most from editing
- Students writing in English as a second language. The research is solid, the argument is there, and marks go on register, articles and phrasing. See English essay help.
- Anyone who wrote in a hurry. A paper drafted over two nights usually has good material in the wrong order.
- Long documents. Chapters of a dissertation or thesis, where consistency across fifty pages is nearly impossible to police yourself.
- Anyone who has stopped seeing their own text. After the fourth read you see what you meant, not what you wrote.
Formatting is a separate job
If the content is fine and the citation style is wrong, you need formatting rather than editing: the paper is brought into line with APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian or Harvard, including the reference list. It is its own order type in the form.
What to send
- Your draft, in an editable format
- The assignment brief and the rubric – an editor who knows the marking criteria fixes the right things
- The required citation style and language variety, U.S. or U.K. English
- Anything you already suspect is wrong – “the middle section drifts” is a useful instruction
- Your word limit, so cuts happen where you want them
What editing will not do
It will not add research you didn’t do, invent sources, or turn a paper that answers the wrong question into one that answers the right one. If the draft has a structural problem that big, ordering the paper written properly is cheaper than paying to rescue it twice – ask support and we will tell you honestly which one you need.
Price and terms
Editing and proofreading are priced below writing from scratch, and the cost depends on the length, your academic level and the deadline. The order form shows your total before payment, and revisions are free if the work doesn’t follow your instructions.
